angela vicente

Angela was born in Constanza (Dominican Republic), the highest city in the Caribbean. She spent her youth in this natural paradise before moving to the capital, Santo Domingo. After studying marketing, she initially worked in various professions – as a croupier in a casino, assistant to a cardiologist and sales manager in a bank.

Even then, her private passion was painting. Inspired by the street painters of the Dominican capital with their colorful portraits and landscapes, inspired by the lively colors of the Caribbean, the first works with abstract motifs were created, which immediately were very well received among her broad group of relatives and friends. Eventually, she sold her paintings through a well-known gallery in Santo Domingo.

After Angela left her native Caribbean country in 2005 and moved to Mallorca, she initially stopped her artistic work because, as an immigrant, she had to find a regular job. She first worked for three years in a shop specializing in mallorcan products mainly made from olive wood before opening her own shops in the old town of Palma and later in Pollensa,.

Like many retailers, Angela had to close her shops due to the Corona crisis. This final point marked also the rediscovery of her passion for painting.

Her new work draws on earlier motifs and the bright colors of her Caribbean homeland, but incorporates many elements of Western pop culture, such as in her colorful portraits, particularly of women’s faces. Another focus of her work are the collages of style icons such as Paul Newman or Marilyn Monroe, which she seals with epoxy resin to achieve a transparent and crystalline shine.
